The Three Types of Inground Pools: Which is For You?

When deciding on a new inground pool for you and your family, the first decision you will be faced with is the type of pool that best suits your needs. There are 3 main types of inground pools; Concrete, vinyl and fibreglass.

Concrete
Also known as ‘Gunite’, concrete pools are known for their durability and sturdiness. They are good in all types of climates as they are not as prone to expanding and contracting as other materials are. You get more flexibility with concrete pools in terms of design, colour, size, depth and the features you can add to it. They are however, more prone to algae build ups if not appropriately maintained and usually require resurfacing after around 10 years.

Vinyl
Vinyl pools are generally the most affordable on the market so, if you’re looking for something quite simple and cost effective, vinyl is the way to go. They are also fairly easy to maintain as the vinyl surface makes it difficult for algae and mould to build up, meaning less money spent on pool chemicals. There is less flexibility in terms of design when compared with concrete pools, but there are still many options to choose from.

Fibreglass
Fibreglass pool are quick and easy to install and, in most cases, come basically prepackaged from the factory. This means as opposed to concrete pools that takes weeks to months to build, a fibreglass pool can be installed within a few days to a week. Their smooth, gelcoat surface also means they are easy to clean and maintain.
